Laurance comes originally from Scotland and has spent the best part of 50 years exploring organic process in acting and life. He started acting around the age of nine and by the time he entered acting academy at the age of 17, he realised that the school’s intellectual and contrived approach to acting was entirely at odds with the way he experienced himself on the inside. He decided to throw out everything he had been taught and start again; intent on exploring a wholly living process which included his personal sense of self. The bulk of his process explorations evolved as a theatre artist with an internationally-renowned theatre company The Glasgow Citizens (directors: Giles Havergal, Philip Prowse and Robert David MacDonald) where he played in well over 100 productions. He remained with the company for almost a quarter-of-a-century before deciding to move on and develop his art as an improvising stand-up dramatist, using his own life stories. He has also worked with leading theatre companies throughout the UK including the Royal National Theatre; the Mermaid Theatre; 7:84 Theatre Company; Pitlochry Festival Theatre and several appearances at the Edinburgh International Festival. In Egypt, he has taught and run workshops at El Warsha Theatre Group; the American University in Cairo; Karima Mansour’s Cairo Contemporary Dance Centre; the Jesuit Theatre School and Studio Zat. He is currently preparing a dramatic work about his life in theatre
